South Carolina  CWP Certification

HOME

By South Carolina State law, to meet the requirements for obtaining a concealed weapons permit applicants must attend an eight hour course of instruction. This course must be taught by a S.L.E.D. approved instructor and includes a specific body of information as well as a live fire qualification and written exam. Our Concealed Weapons Permit Instructors provide full instruction, and materials to meet these requirements and complete the necessary form for you to submit with your Concealed Weapons Permit application.

The class is open to experienced as well as novice shooters.  If you have no experience, you might be interested in our Intro to handguns course.  This is a very basic two hour course for beginners.  You will learn, safety, how to load, unload and properly handle a handgun.

You will need to bring the following to class...

1.        Handgun:   We urge you to bring the handgun you intend to carry concealed, so you take as much as possible away from the class. Either a double-action revolver or a semi-automatic pistol in a self-defense caliber is good. No single action revolvers, derringers, target, plinking, or novelty guns, and no .25 or .50 caliber guns.

We can lend you a suitable handgun if you arrange the loan with us in advance and pay us for the ammunition before you use it.  The rule is that if you use our guns you must use our ammunition. Expect the cost to include a charge for cleaning and maintenance, and to reflect increased replacement costs. We're not in the business of selling guns, ammunition, or other materials.

2.       Ammunition. Bring only fresh factory ammunition for the gun you use. No reloads or hand loads: only new ammunition from a major manufacturer.  When there's a choice between ammunition labeled "target" or "personal protection," choose "target" for our classes unless we say otherwise. It's less expensive and works just as well as more powerful ammunition. All ammunition must be in fresh factory boxes just as you bought it. Do not bring old, corroded ammunition and do not mix or repack any ammunition. Bring 100 rounds to class.  That way you won't run short, can take advantage of opportunities to practice, and return home with the excess. It won't spoil.

3.     Clothing. Dress appropriately for the weather and a sandy environment.  Sneakers or rough shoes, and a baseball type cap. We suggest you dress in layers including a T shirt so you can adjust according to temperature and humidity. The shooting range is outdoors. We shoot in all but the most extreme weather conditions. If you don't get an e-mail or phone call from us that morning calling a class off, then the class is on.

4.    Holster and Belt. Bring a good quality belt holster suitable for your handgun and make sure it fits before class. No cross-draw, shoulder, small-of-back, or novelty holsters. You must wear a belt and it must fit you, the holster, and the pant loops. The belt must be sturdy enough to support the gun without flopping or sagging.

5.  Deposite & Scheduling:  You can contact us via e-mail and then send a deposit of $50.00 per person. The deposit must arrive three days prior to class or your place will not be reserved. Upon receipt of the deposit, we will call you to confirm your attendance, answer your last minute questions, and cover directions to the range.
